It's all about the simple things.

Yesterday, after both Brett and I had finished taking care of our daily duties, work, cleaning, grocery shopping and other various responsibilities, I decided to be domestic and make some homemade freezer strawberry jam. I got a flat of strawberries for $5 at Winco. (Anyone that lives in the Provo/ Orem area should check that place out.. there are pretty good deals there). It is a really simple recipe...

2 cups crushed strawberries
4 cups sugar
1 (1.75 ounce package) pectin
3/4 cup water
  • mix strawberries and sugar together. let stand for ten minutes.
  • bring water and pectin to a boil
  • mix pectin in with strawberries and let sit for 3 minutes
  • put in containers. freeze for 24 hrs. then.. bamb! it's ready to go!
Brett jumped right in to help me. It was such a great evening. It's amazing how much fun you can have by doing something so simple. It wasn't even that it was actually the making of the strawberry jam that was so fun. It was just the fact that we were doing it together. We ended up making quite a bit of jam! After we had finished cleaning up, we starting talking.. it's interesting the things that bring joy to our lives and the things that really don't. Making jam. It's to good to have moments like that to serve as little reminders.

Unfortunately, fortunately....

Fortunately, both Brett and I had Tuesday off work so we decided Monday that we would have an adventure.

Unfortunately, we couldn't go anywhere too far, because it was only for one night.

Fortunately, we decided to go camping!

Unfortunately, we found out that was too expensive to justify the price for just the two of us.

Fortunately, my sweet sweet husband is so great and he set up camp for me in our backyard.

Unfortunately, the sprinklers decided to go off at about two a.m. right by my head. It was soo loud. and we don't have any control over our sprinklers.

Fortunately, they only lasted about fifteen minutes.

Unfortunately, as soon as they stopped... the rain started. and it poured.

Fortunately, the rain stopped after awhile.

Unfortunately, as soon as the rain ended... the wind picked up.

Fortunately, we both agreed that we should go inside and go to bed.

Unfortunately, once we were in bed, we realized that we needed to put some sort of weight on the tent so that it didn't blow away...

Fortunately, we found something quickly and ran outside to cover the tent.

Unfortunately, we didn't end up going to sleep til about 4 a.m.

Fortunately, we got to sleep in!! and we enjoyed our Tuesday afternoon.

What a fun camping experience!! I'm thankful for my great husband, who takes care of me. I'm thankful that sometimes things turn out differently than we've planned. I know heavenly father watches over us. I know he has a greater plan for us than we have for ourselves. :)

Count your blessings.
